HAIKOU, June 24. /TASS/. China's Hainan has launched a system for selling electronic tickets for regular speed trains, reported www.hinews.cn

Starting from June 20, the electronic ticket system, which previously worked in limited mode on high-speed lines and railway routes within certain districts, worked at 1,300 stations and now also includes trains moving at normal speed, the website reports citing the Chinese Railways.

The new system now allows to purchase tickets using various ways, including Internet resources, sales offices at the stations, as well as ticket terminals. It has become significantly easier to get on and off the train. Now the Chinese citizens need to have only an identity card on them. Ticket refunds are now also possible online.

The province began testing the e-ticket system on high-speed railway in November 2018.

China has the world's most extensive and extensive network of high-speed railway. By the end of 2019, their total length reached about 35,000 km. According to forecasts, by 2025 this figure will reach 38,000 km. The total length of all railway lines operating in China by the end of 2019 reached 139,000 km.
