Hainan doctors treating coronavirus with the help of traditional Chinese medicine

According to China Daily, the methods have prioven to be effective

HAIKOU, February 23. /TASS/. Hainan medical institutions have introduced new methods of treatment for patients with the new coronavirus, based on a combination of Western and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). According to the China Daily, the method is already proving its effectiveness.

“Since coronavirus outbreak, we have been conducting comprehensive diagnostics and treatment of patients with the novel coronavirus, based on elements of Western medicine and TCM,” the newspaper quoted Zhou Songjin, deputy head of the TCM department of the Hainan People’s Hospital. "The methods of traditional Chinese medicine are proving to be effective in rapidly improving clinical symptoms and increasing patient resistance," he added.

According to the doctor, the treatment is developed individually for each patient. "Thus, the medics at the People’s Hospital adjusted the treatment program for a 64-year-old woman named at least nine times: she was the first seriously ill patient in the province," the department’s deputy head said adding that the patient was successfully discharged from the hospital last Monday.

According to Zhou Songjing, a complex approach has already been applied in the treatment of 90 patients. He also pointed out that the method takes into account not only the individual details of each case, but also Hainan's tropical climate.

On December 31, Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of an unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan - a large trade and industrial center in central China populated by 12 million people. The source of the outbreak is the COVID-19 coronavirus. Cases of COVID-19 have been detected in at least 27 countries, including Russia. The WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak in China a global health emergency.

The number of infected in the Hainan province reached 168, 54 of which were registered in Sanya. In total, 106 patients recovered from the illness and were discharged from hospitals.
