Envoy says Russian House in Vienna will continue to thrive despite opposition

In a commentary, the Austrian Foreign Ministry’s press service confirmed that the Russian House is a part of the embassy so it falls under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations

VIENNA, April 1. /TASS/. The Russian Science and Culture Center in Vienna will continue bringing Russian culture to Austrian citizens no matter what any naysayers think, Russian Ambassador to Vienna Dmitry Lubinsky told TASS in an interview.

"The Russian Culture Center in Vienna continues its mission, to the extent this is possible. It creates interesting music, theater, literature, history and language programs, thus attracting our compatriots. In a commentary, the Austrian Foreign Ministry’s press service confirmed that the Russian House is a part of the embassy. It supposes that it falls under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. So, in spite of all detractors, the Russian House in Vienna is prospering and will continue acquainting the Austrian and Russian people with the achievements of Russia’s multidimensional culture," the ambassador emphasized.

Earlier, Mikhail Shvydkoy, Russian presidential envoy for international cultural cooperation, said that Austria failed to "cancel" the Russian culture, but there is no communication between the countries in this field. Later, representatives of the NEOS - The New Austria and Liberal Forum opposition party called on the country’s authorities to close the Russian House. Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said that the Russian House is a foundational part of the Russian embassy, so it cannot be terminated.
