MOSCOW, September 24. /TASS/. Indonesia is showing great interest in Russian expertise and technologies in the nuclear energy sector, said Alexander Tsibulya, Director for Projects in Indonesia at Rosatom Energy Projects, as quoted by the state corporation's press service.
"We note that interest in nuclear energy in Indonesia is growing noticeably, and the dialogue is becoming increasingly substantive. In recent years, our circle of contacts with representatives of government bodies, energy companies, and the scientific and expert communities has expanded significantly. We are working intensively with Indonesian partners, discussing various formats of cooperation, and seeing great interest in Russian expertise and technologies. It is important for us to foster a better understanding of the role nuclear energy plays in the long-term development of the country's energy system," Tsibulya stated following Rosatom's participation in Electricity Connect 2026, one of Southeast Asia's largest energy exhibitions, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 22-24.
This year, Rosatom showcased technological solutions for the nuclear energy sector at its pavilion, including large-and small-capacity nuclear power plants as well as floating power units. According to the corporation's press service, the Rosatom stand was attended by Darmawan Prasodjo, head of Indonesia's state-owned power company PLN; Haendra Subekti, Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment at Indonesia's Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN); as well as other representatives of Indonesian government bodies, partners, and experts from the nuclear industries of Indonesia and ASEAN countries.
"For ASEAN nations, nuclear energy is no longer a matter for the distant future. It is a practical tool for long-term energy planning. ASEAN representatives acknowledge that there is no one-size-fits-all solution: each country develops its own model based on its energy system structure, geography, industrial demand, and national priorities. We are collaborating productively with partners in Indonesia and stand ready to share our expertise with neighboring countries in the region to foster a more effective and comprehensive dialogue regarding the future energy mix of ASEAN nations," the press service quoted Anna Belokoneva, Head of Rosatom’s representative office in Indonesia, as saying.
