Hainan authorities unveil plan to attract highly skilled workers to China’s province

The plan focuses on tourism, modern service industry, high-tech industry, efficient tropical agriculture, seed breeding, deep-sea technology and commercial aerospace industry

HAIKOU /China/, February 10. /TASS/. Authorities of China's southern province of Hainan plan to introduce a number of measures to turn the island into a center for attracting highly-qualified specialists. This was announced at the Hainan Highly Qualified Personnel Conference held in the city of Haikou.

The event unveiled a detailed plan to establish Hainan as a center or hub for attracting the talent needed to drive innovation in various industries. It focused on the tourism industry, modern service industry, high-tech industry, efficient tropical agriculture, seed breeding, deep-sea technology and commercial aerospace industry.

According to the plan, the cities of Haikou, Sanya and Danzhou will play a central role, which will also be linked to the Wenchang International Aerospace City, the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, the Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone and other industrial parks.

The conference participants were also introduced to a three-year-plan to support the development of modern industries and take comprehensive measures to recruit highly qualified personnel for these industries. The number of professionals in modern industries is expected to increase within three years, which will optimize human resources and build a recruitment chain.

Last year, the provincial government implemented a plan to attract 1 million high-skilled specialists to Hainan. A total of 174,000 such professionals was attracted in 2024.
