Gazprom sets record for gas supplies to Russian consumers in December — company

Gazprom attributes the increase in gas consumption to the abnormal cold snap in December in a number of Russian regions

MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. Gazprom supplied Russian consumers with a record volume of gas for December due to the abnormal cold weather, the holding said in a statement.

"On December 8, 1,717 million cubic meters of gas were supplied to domestic consumers through the unified gas supply system of Russia - this is a new absolute historical record for daily supplies for December. The previous all-time high was recorded on December 24, 2012 - 1,714 million cubic meters of gas," the company said in a statement.

At the same time, the daily gas withdrawal from the company’s underground gas storage facilities on some days exceeded 600 million cubic meters.

Gazprom attributes the increase in gas consumption to the abnormal cold snap in December in a number of Russian regions. The average air temperature in the area covered by the unified gas supply system dropped to minus 17 degrees on December 8, and in St. Petersburg the first ten days of December became one of the coldest in the entire history of observations.

"The first frosty temperature peak of this winter has been successfully passed. Supplies through the Gazprom gas transportation system are reliably carried out," the company stated.

Earlier, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said that gas reserves in Russia's underground storage facilities by the autumn-winter period of 2023-2024. amount to a record 72.842 billion cubic meters. Gazprom has completed all planned maintenance works at its facilities.
