MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Russia’s subcommittee on customs-tariff and non-tariff regulation, protective measures in foreign trade to the government’s commission on economic development and integration welcomed the Agriculture Ministry’s initiative to impose a temporary ban on shipments of durum wheat from Russia for half a year, from December 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024, the cabinet’s press service said.
"The Agriculture Ministry’s initiative on imposing a temporary ban on shipments of durum wheat from Russia for six months, from December 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024 is supported. The measure is aimed at ensuring food security and curbing consumer prices for grain processing products on the domestic market," the statement reads.
Moreover, the subcommittee welcomed the proposal by the Agriculture Ministry and the Economic Development Ministry on setting the tariff quota on shipments of main grain crops (wheat, barley, corn, rye) outside Russia to countries that are not members of the Eurasian Economic Union, at 24 mln tons. It is planned that the quota will be in force from February 15 to June 30, 2024.
Earlier, the Agriculture Ministry suggested that durum wheat shipments be temporarily banned from December 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024. First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut also said earlier that the ministry had set the quota on grain export from Russia in 2024 at 24 mln tons.
