IAEA not to stop mission at ZNPP after drone incident — Grossi

The agency head also said that he is unable to identify the organizers of the attack, because he does not have an irrefutable proof

BERLIN, December 12. /TASS/. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will not recall its observers from the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) after the recent drone attack on the agency vehicle during the personnel rotation, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said during his address, published on the agency’s X page.

"On our own will, we will not cease our operation, we will continue there," Grossi said.

He added that, while this is was not the first case when IAEA observers faced difficulties at the ZNPP, the recent incident was particularly concerning for the agency.

The agency head also said that he is unable to identify the organizers of the attack, because he does not have an irrefutable proof.

"The drone that was used to attack the IAEA convoy […] was designed to explode on impact. As a result, there is no discernible debris to be recoverable at the site, which could have assisted us in further investigation," he said, adding that the IAEA staff was not injured in the attack.

The IAEA car used in the rotation of observers at the ZNPP was attacked by a drone on Tuesday. IAEA experts have been present at the nuclear power plant since September 1, 2022, after Grossi’s first visit to the plant. The ZNPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.

The Russian Foreign Ministry decisively condemned the Kiev regime’s attack on the IAEA experts.
