THE HAGUE, February 10. /TASS/. None of the members of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has reported the use of chemical weapons by Ukraine, the press service of the organization told TASS on Friday.
The statement came in response to a request for comment on reports that Ukrainian troops had used chemical weapons near Artyomovsk and Ugledar.
According to the OPCW, its technical secretariat has watched the situation in Ukraine since February 2022 in the context of reports of alleged use of chemical weapons in Ukraine. The organization has been in contact with Russia and Ukraine about the issue and publishes the data it receives from these countries on its website.
"None of the members of the OPCW reached out to the technical secretariat to provide information on the use of chemical weapons," the organization said. "The OPCW will continue to monitor the situation, as it has done since the beginning of the conflict."
Yan Gagin, a military analyst and an adviser to the interim head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, told TASS earlier that Ukrainian troops had used chemical weapons near Soledar and Artyomovsk on February 5. He said that wasn’t the first time Ukraine used chemical weapons. Gagin added that Ukrainian units don’t hide the fact that they have banned types of weapons, occasionally showing videos of foreign-made gas grenades and copters, then dropping them.
Farhan Haq, a deputy spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, said at a news conference on February 8 that any information about the possible use of chemical weapons by Ukraine should be provided to the OPCW.
