NUR-SULTAN, May 18. /TASS/. The participants of the Council of Commanders of Border Troops that took place in the Kazakh city of Turkistan discussed organizing the protection of the external borders of CIS countries, the press service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported on Wednesday.
"The delegates discussed the pertinent issues of organizing the protection of the external borders of the CIS members. They summarized the activities of the Council of Commanders of Border Troops on forming a system of ensuring border security and on joint special border operations conducted. The Council’s tasks for the year ahead and the mechanisms of perfecting the information exchange and the development of cooperation in the research and development and educational spheres were reviewed," the statement said.
The event was attended by the delegations of border authorities from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
"Following the session, the heads of the border agencies signed 11 decisions. The next meeting of the Council of Commanders of Border Troops is planned for the second half of 2022 in the Republic of Tajikistan," the press service explained.
The Council of Commanders of Border Troops was created by the July 6, 1992 decision of the CIS Heads of State Council. In accordance with Article 31 of the UN Charter, it is a body of the CIS Heads of State Council on the issues of protecting the external borders of the Commonwealth’s member states and ensuring the stable situation there.
