At the same time, Trump noted that the United States will hold another round of talks with Iran next week. "I expect more talks with Iran. They want to make a deal, but it is not the deal that I want to make. It is what we would have maybe agreed to a year ago. They overplayed their hand," the US president said.

In turn, US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said in an interview with NBC News that Trump is keeping all options on the table regarding Iran.

Waltz was asked whether he could confirm a Wall Street Journal report that the US president was considering renewed strikes on Iran after the November US congressional elections.

"What I can tell you is the president will leave all options on the table to ensure the world is safe from Iran holding the world hostage with a nuclear weapon," the diplomat said.
