YEREVAN, May 21. /TASS/. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov that talks between the two countries’ delegations were held in a constructive way.
"The talks were quite substantive and constructive," he noted.
Mirzoyan also stressed that Yerevan had no plans to change the shape of its allied relations with Moscow. "Are we preparing to reformat our allied relations with the Russian Federation? I would like to put it straight: we are not. Our obligations and rights are clearly spelled out, signed and ratified and no one has canceled them. Armenia has concerns that these mechanisms have not always worked in full force, but that is quite another question," the top Armenian diplomat noted.
In addition, he pointed out that a potential reopening of regional communication links would give an impetus to economic relations between Armenia and Russia. "The potential of the region’s economic development has not been fully exploited. We are confident that with the restoration of transport infrastructure, our mutually beneficial economic cooperation will significantly grow," Mirzoyan stated.
Lavrov arrived in Armenia for a working visit on May 20. On Wednesday, he held talks with the country’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. The top Russian diplomat is also expected to meet with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
