Turkish police use tear gas, water cannons against demonstrators

Clashes between protesters and police also took place in front of the Istanbul mayor’s office where a major opposition rally is taking place

ANKARA, March 23. /TASS/. Police have used pepper spray and water cannons against protesters in several districts of the Turkish city of Istanbul after demonstrators had tried to break through police cordons.

The Cumhuriyet newspaper posted footage of protesters being dispersed near the Aqueduct of Valens. Several demonstrators were detained.

Clashes between protesters and police also took place in front of the Istanbul mayor’s office where a major opposition rally is taking place.

Meanwhile, police officers used tear gas and water cannons against a large group of masked demonstrators in the Turkish capital of Ankara, a TASS correspondent reported.
