Hamas says actively negotiating to get Gaza deal done

According to the statement, the movement continues to discuss US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff’s proposal and other initiatives toward reaching a hostage exchange agreement

TUNIS, March 21. /TASS/. Hamas wants to get a Gaza deal done, and is actively engaged in negotiations on a potential truce with Israel based on a proposal from US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, the Palestinian radical movement said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

"The movement confirms that it remains engaged in talks and is cooperating responsibly with mediators as it continues to discuss Witkoff’s proposal and other initiatives toward reaching a hostage exchange agreement that would help free prisoners, stop the war and ensure the withdrawal of [Israeli] troops," the statement reads.

On March 18, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) delivered a series of mass strikes on Hamas-related facilities in the Gaza Strip. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attributed the operation to Hamas’ refusal to accept proposals put forward by mediators and Witkoff. The death toll from the latest escalation is nearing 600, with more than 1,000 Palestinians being injured, according to updates.
