US seeks to reset relations with Russia while EU continues rearming, says top MP

The Russian and US presidents, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, are expected to talk over the phone later on Tuesday

BELGRADE, March 18. /TASS/. Washington aims to reset ties with Russia and resolve the Ukrainian conflict peacefully, whereas the European Union is rearming, clearly seeking to heighten the situation, Nenad Stevandic, parliament speaker of the Republic of Srpska (one of the two constituent entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina - TASS), said.

"Now we have two separate Wests. One West is American, the other one is European. The Americans want a reset <…> with Russia, to end the war, and address the energy crisis. [Elon] Musk wants to fly to Mars with the Russians. Apart from that, we have another West, which is in a state of war, rearming itself and is looking for where to demonstrate itself," he said in an interview with the Pink television channel.

The Russian and US presidents, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, are expected to talk over the phone later on Tuesday. Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed that such a call was being prepared, with talks on the most pressing issues, primarily the Ukrainian crisis, being drafted. Meanwhile, Trump told reporters that he plans to raise territorial and infrastructure concerns in the context of the Ukrainian conflict.

The call will be held on the anniversary of Crimea's reunification with Russia, which took place on March 18, 2014, when the Russian president and the leaders of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol signed a treaty on acceding to Russia.
