Lukashenko appoints Belarus’s former PM Golovchenko as new central bank governor

The Belarusian leader expressed hope that Roman Golovchenko and the country’s new prime minister, Alexander Turchin, will put issues relating to funding for the economy from head to foot

MINSK, March 10. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko appointed former Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko governor of the republic’s National Bank, news agency BelTA reported.

"This appointment comes as Roman [Golovchenko] has always sought more integration of the [central] bank and the banking system with the economy," the Belarusian leader explained as he described the appointment as major. He expressed hope that Golovchenko and the country’s new prime minister, Alexander Turchin, will eventually put issues relating to funding for the economy from head to foot.

According to Lukashenko, at least in the past five years "very skilled organizers and economists" have handled economic issues in Belarus.

Golovchenko has served as Belarus’s prime minister since June 2020.
