BEIJING, February 14. /TASS/. The comprehensive partnership between China and Russia stands free from external interference and will continue to deepen, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun said.
"China and Russia have maintained their comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era. <…> Sino-Russian cooperation is not directed against any third party and is not subject to external influence," he emphasized at a briefing in response to a TASS question on whether improved US-Russia relations would affect the partnership between Moscow and Beijing. "China is committed to continuing <…> to promote comprehensive strategic cooperation with Russia and to further deepen this mutually beneficial, win-win interaction."
Commenting on the 75th anniversary of the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance, and Mutual Assistance, the spokesman said that under the strategic leadership of the presidents of the two countries, relations are developing smoothly and steadily, free from external interference. According to him, China is ready to strengthen good-neighborly ties with Russia without joining political blocs or engaging in confrontation.
On October 1, 1949, China's founding leader Mao Zedong (1893-1976) announced the establishment of the People's Republic of China in Beijing's central Tiananmen Square. The next day, the Soviet Union, with Russia as its successor, was the first among other nations to recognize the People's Republic. On February 14, 1950, the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance was concluded in Moscow. In 2001, Russian President Vladimir Putin and then-Chinese President Jiang Zemin signed the bilateral Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation Between the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation.
