Ukraine crisis highlights global security issues, senior Russian MP says

Leonid Slutsky doubted any Minsk-3 format talks could be held to resolve that crisis

MOSCOW, February 12. /TASS/. The Ukraine crisis has expanded beyond the region, highlighting global security issues, a senior Russian lawmaker told TASS.

"The Ukraine crisis has expanded far beyond the region, exposing global security issues and the neocolonial essence of the Western-centered world order," said Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the international committee of the Russian State Duma, or lower house of parliament, and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, or LDPR. He doubted any Minsk-3 format talks can be held to resolve that.

According to Slutsky, the Minsk agreements went down in history and it is important to draw lessons from them. The senior legislator recalled that hours of negotiations were held on the night of February 11, 2015. "Over seven years through 2022, none of the 13 points of the [Minsk] agreements was implemented," Slutsky lamented. And February 24, 2022, smashed the Westerners’ hopes of maintaining global hegemony, he argued.

"Countries in the Global South now side with Russia. Together, we make the global majority," Slutsky concluded.
