MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. A possible end to the Ukrainian conflict through a compromise may create a painful rift in the society, the Novosti Live portal quoted Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klichko as saying.
"There might be so-called compromises, <...> and if that will really be the case, these compromises will hurt us all," he said. "God forbid, there might even be some sort of a civil conflict. History shows that such things sometimes happen when guns go silent."
In the worst case, Ukraine will found itself on the verge of a deadly internal conflict, Klichko warned.
Commenting on the ongoing conflict, the Kiev mayor expressed hope that it may be over soon.
"I believe, we can project an end to the hostilities in a month or two. I’m not sure what the preconditions will be, but I’m convinced that they can hardly be described as positive. The so-called compromise might turn out to be very painful for each and every Ukrainian," he said.
On June 14, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin outlined the conditions for a settlement in Ukraine at a meeting with the leadership of the Foreign Ministry. These conditions include the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from Donbass and Novorossiya, and Kiev's pledge not to join NATO. The rights, freedoms, and interests of Russian-speaking citizens must also be fully protected in Ukraine. Russia considers it necessary to lift all Western sanctions against it and to establish Ukraine's non-aligned and nuclear-free status.
