Trump plotting against Iran despite promises of talks — president

According to Masoud Pezeshkian, the Islamic Republic will be able to thwart all the plots of unfriendly countries with the help of the people

DUBAI, February 10. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump talks about his desire to start negotiations with Iran, but meanwhile he is building new plots against it, Iranian leader Masoud Pezeshkian said.

"Trump keeps talking about his willingness to negotiate with Iran. At the same time, he is signing more and more new decrees with anti-Iran plots. The US can only dream of bringing Iran to its knees," the president said during the celebrations of the 46th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

According to Pezeshkian, the Islamic Republic will be able to thwart all the plots of unfriendly countries with the help of the people. "The enemy is trying to create divisions in the Iranian society, believing that this will help him in implementing his [anti-Iranian] plans. <...> With faith in God and unity, we will get out of the crisis," he added.

On February 4, Trump signed an executive order to restore maximum US pressure on Iran. The document provides for the intensification of Washington's efforts to reduce Iran's oil exports. At the same time, the US leader allowed the possibility of a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and said he wanted to make a "great deal" with Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said afterward that the US president's concerns about Tehran obtaining nuclear weapons were groundless. He said that the country was committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Moreover, the religious injunction of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei to ban the development of such weapons is in force, the top diplomat added. Araghchi emphasized that the new attempt to exert maximum pressure on Tehran will fail like all the previous ones.
