BERLIN, February 3. /TASS/. The Alternative for Germany party (AfD) has advocated lifting of economic sanctions against Russia and repair of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines in its election program.
"Russia has been a reliable supplier and guarantor of affordable energy supply for decades, which is the Achilles heel of the German economy due to our energy-intensive industry. Restoring unimpeded trade with Russia includes the immediate lifting of economic sanctions against Russia and the repair of Nord Stream. Germany's relations with the Eurasian Economic Union must be expanded," the election program says.
The party also proposes to consider Ukraine as a neutral state that is not a member of NATO and the EU.
"We see the future of Ukraine as a neutral state outside NATO and the EU," the text says.
The Alternative for Germany further opposed the deployment of US long-range missiles in Germany.
"We reject the planned deployment of US long-range weapons systems (cruise missiles, drones and missiles) in Germany," the program stresses.
At the same time, the AfD seeks to improve Germany's relations with the United States.
"We also see the new US government as a reliable partner in our commitment to freedom of expression and the fight against censorship on the Internet," the document states. The party acknowledged that the geopolitical and economic interests of the US are increasingly diverging from those of Germany and other European countries. "One example of this is energy supply, such as the large-scale attempt by the US to prevent the commissioning of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. Germany must not allow itself to be drawn into conflicts over decisions made by the US in relation to other powers," the text concludes.
The AfD election program was adopted at the party's federal congress, which took place in the city of Riesa (federal state of Saxony) on January 11-12.
In Germany, the AfD is called a right-wing populist party. Other political forces consider it impossible to work with it within the framework of any coalition - either at the federal or regional levels.
Snap parliamentary elections in Germany are scheduled for February 23.
