Syria’s opposition plans to set up inclusive transitional power body

This power body "will enjoy full executive authority", the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces said

BEIRUT, December 8. /TASS/. The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces has said that it wants to form an inclusive transitional power body in Syria.

"The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces confirms that it is working on forming a transitional power body <…> involving all national forces without any exceptions," it said in a statement. It also said that this power body "will enjoy full executive authority."

"We’re working on implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 to immediately start the transition period. The present government is tasked with meeting its obligations until a proper transition process starts," member of the organization’s political committee Anas al-Abdah told TASS.

There is no certainty regarding whereabouts of Syrian President Bashar Assad as he sent requests to several countries asking to accept him, which were denied, the politician said.

"There has been no certain news on Assad’s whereabouts so far. We know that he asked for permission to be accepted in several countries, including Russia, but he was denied. He probably headed to some of African countries. In turn, the Syrian people would like him to be brought to the Syrian court," he said.

The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces considers it crucial to maintain good relations with Russia, Anas al-Abdah said.

"We are keen to maintain good relations with Russia. In this context our common interests should be regarded as crucial," he said when asked about the future of Russia’s presence in Syria and the functioning of the Russian base in Tartus.

On November 27, militants started a large-scale offensive on positions of the government’s forces in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. By late December 7, Assad's opponents captured several large cities, including Aleppo, Hama, Deir ez-Zor, Deraa, and Homs. Early on Sunday the militants entered Damascus, after which the units of the Syrian army left the city. Head of the Syrian government Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali expressed readiness to transfer power in the republic in a peaceful way.
