West alarmed by impending Moscow-Minsk security pact — Lukashenko

According to the Belarusian leader, the security concept for the Union State will help prevent any violations of the two countries’ territorial integrity, preserve their sovereignty and, most importantly, guarantee that citizens can live in peace

MINSK, December 6. /TASS/. Minsk and Moscow’s plans to sign a new security pact have apparently touched a nerve in the West, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"Today’s signing of the security concept for the Union State [of Russia and Belarus] and the interstate agreement on security guarantees brings our allied relations, as well as coordination in the defense sphere, to an unprecedented level," he said at a meeting of the Union State Supreme State Council.

According to the Belarusian leader, this will help prevent any violations of the two countries’ territorial integrity, preserve their sovereignty and, most importantly, guarantee that citizens can live in peace. "Our mere intention to sign this agreement has drawn sharp reactions from our partners in the West. Maybe it’s not a bad thing that they noticed it," he added.
