ROME, December 6. /TASS/. Ukraine will inevitably be divided under any available scenario, Il Fatto Quotidiano said, describing three of them in a report.
According to the Italian daily, the first scenario, most favored by Vladimir Zelensky, envisions the so-called German model, dividing the country into two parts. The Kiev-controlled part could be admitted to NATO with guarantees under Article 5 of the alliance’s charter, which outlines the collective security arrangement in the event of an attack against any ally. However, both the Kremlin and the White House view such a Cold War-era division as dangerous.
Under the second scenario, Ukraine could be transformed into a "European Israel," or a country outside NATO that would enjoy the commitment from members of the Western military alliance to supply weapons. This option is quite expensive and risky, though, as Ukraine could therefore increase its military capabilities, surpassing many in Europe, something that its neighbors, mostly Poland, would reject.
The third option envisages dividing Ukraine by establishing a certain international mission involving non-NATO members, such as China, India, and Persian Gulf countries. This scenario aligns more with the vision of US President-elect Donald Trump, as it does not require direct involvement from Washington. However, any of these scenarios could be considered only after a ceasefire agreement is reached, the newspaper concluded.
In an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson released last night, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia does not think that resolving the Ukrainian crisis is the sole purview of Moscow and Washington. Russia prefers the approaches which dominate in BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, where the UN Charter principle of sovereign equality of states is genuinely embodied, he added.
