Candidate for post of top diplomat confirms bid to join NATO, EU a priority for Georgia

On Monday, acting Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze endorsed Bochorishvili as a candidate for the position of the republic’s foreign minister to replace Ilia Darchiashvili

TBILISI, November 26. /TASS/. Georgia’s path toward membership in NATO and the European Union remains an important priority for the republic, said Maka Bochorishvili, tipped for the post of Georgia’s top diplomat, addressing lawmakers at a meeting convened to vote on the new government.

"In line with Article 78 of Georgia’s Constitution, Georgia continues on its irreversible path toward Euro-Atlantic integration. Hence, relations with NATO and the European Union will be an important priority," Bochorishvili stated.

On Monday, acting Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze endorsed Bochorishvili as a candidate for the position of the republic’s foreign minister to replace Ilia Darchiashvili. Bochorishvili has previously served as chairperson of the parliamentary Committee on European Integration.

The new parliament of Georgia elected on October 26 convened its inaugural session on Monday after which the government formally resigned. Freshly elected legislators need to approve a new cabinet.
