South African observes to monitor Russian presidential election — envoy

When asked if Russian observers would be invited to monitor South Africa’s general election set for May 29, the ambassador pointed out that it was the prerogative of the election authorities

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. South African representatives will attend Russia’s upcoming presidential election as observers, South Africa's Ambassador to Moscow Mzuvukile Jeff Maqetuka said in an interview with TASS.

"There are some African organizations that have been invited by the Russian Central Electoral Commission. And those organizations, I know they have already responded," the envoy noted. "The diplomatic community was invited by the CEC to the briefing. That was fair enough. So we interacted at that level," he added.

When asked if Russian observers would be invited to monitor South Africa’s general election set for May 29, the ambassador pointed out that it was the prerogative of the election authorities.

The Federation Council (upper house of parliament) formally designated March 17, 2024, as the date of Russia’s presidential election. The Central Election Commission decided that the vote would take place over three days, on March 15-17, 2024, making it the first ever three-day presidential election in Russian history.
