MOSCOW, January 29. /TASS/. The number of injured in an earthquake in West Azerbaijan province in Iran’s northwest has increased to 580 people, the governor of the province Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian told the Young Journalists Club news agency on Sunday.
"As of now 580 people were injured and 2 people died as a result of an earthquake in the city of Khoy," he was quoted as saying.
The earthquake damaged two cities and more than 70 villages, according to preliminary estimates, the governor added.
A 5.7 magnitude earthquake in the northwestern part of Iran with an epicenter 23 kilometers to southeast of the city of Khoy, home to 175,000 people, hit on Saturday.
