BELGRADE, January 16. /TASS/. Serbian volunteers will be brought to justice for participating in the conflict in Ukraine, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Milos Vucevic said on Monday.
"Our special services - both military and civilians - are monitoring and analyzing all data. There is nothing new I can tell you. Our government clearly prohibits participation of Serbian nationals in any conflicts in foreign countries. So, there will be legal consequences when they [volunteers] are accountable to Serbia’s government bodies," he said.
He said that he would like to see a stabilization of the situation in the world and in Ukraine so that "the two Slav Orthodox peoples stop the fratricidal war."
US Department of State Counselor Derek Chollet said during a visit to Belgrade earlier that the US was concerned over the activities of the Wagner private military company and that Washington was seeking to neutralize its activities. The US Politico newspaper wrote on January 9 that the Washington administration was collecting data about Wagner’s activities, including in Serbia and the Central African Republic. It said, citing data from diplomatic mail, that US officials were keeping a close eye on Wagner’s activities outside Ukraine.
