Iran’s foreign minister calls on Washington to return to talks on nuclear deal

Tehran will continue to adhere to a diplomatic approach because it’s right, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian pointed out

TEHRAN, June 23. /TASS/. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Thursday called on the US to return to talks to reach an agreement on the nuclear deal.

"We will continue to adhere to a diplomatic approach because it’s right," he said following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran. "We are again calling on the US to show a realistic approach for a successful completion of the negotiation process."

The minister also criticized the resolution adopted by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), calling it wrong. "We thank China and Russia, who opposed the resolution that was put forward in the IAEA by the United States and three European countries (UK, France and Germany - TASS)," he said.

On June 8, most of the 35 member states of the IAEA's Board of Governors voted in favor of a resolution on Iran that criticizes it for a lack of clarification on the origin of uranium particles at three undeclared sites. China and Russia voted against the resolution.

Lavrov arrived in Tehran on Wednesday as part of an official two-day visit. The minister was received by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on the first day, and held talks with the Iranian Foreign Minister on the second day.
