Moldovan authorities dismiss secret services' engagement in terrorist attack in Tiraspol

The day before, the Investigative Committee of Transnistria detained a suspect who attempted to set fire to the building of the military commissariat in Tiraspol

CHISINAU, May 24. /TASS/. Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has dismissed accusations by law enforcement agencies of the unrecognized Transnistria that Moldovan secret services were involved in the attempt to set fire to a military commissariat in Tiraspol.

"This is a typical story with the accusation of Chisinau. I suspect that they got a text that had to be reproduced. All their courage usually comes down to Moldovan legal authorities' accusation," Grosu said on Tuesday during a Moldovan TV channel Prime broadcast, commenting on the confessions made by the suspect detained in Transnistria.

At the same time, he added that "Moldovan authorities do everything so that medicines, food, oil products and fertilizers could come to Transnistria".

The day before, the Investigative Committee of Transnistria detained a suspect who attempted to set fire to the building of the military commissariat in Tiraspol. According to the press secretary of the Investigative Committee, Elena Natolochnaya, it was a resident of Chisinau, Alexander, whose surname was not specified in the interests of the investigation. During the interrogation he said that he had been recruited by a Moldovan intelligence officer named Ion, who had ordered the crime. The detainee was charged; the investigation qualifies his actions as sabotage and an act of terrorism. If his guilt is proven in court, he could face 20 years in prison.

According to the investigation, on May 13 at about 04:40 unknown individuals threw several bottles with incendiary mixtures into the building of the military commissariat. One of them hit the sidewalk, another one damaged the glass and got stuck in the bars of the window. The fire was quickly extinguished.

There was a series of terrorist attacks in Transnistria at the end of April. The president of the republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, stated that the sabotage was organized from the territory of Ukraine and imposed the maximum terrorist threat level.
