TBILISI, October 29. /TASS/. Independent candidate Salome Zurabishvili continues to be the frontrunner of the presidential election in Georgia and is ahead of her key rival Grigol Vashadze nominated by the United National Movement former ruling party.
The country’s Central Election Commission reported on Monday that votes from 2,464 of 3,705 polling stations (66.56%) had been processed. According to the latest data, Zurabishvili supported by the Georgian Dream party has secured 39.1% of the vote, while Vashadze garnered 37.24%. David Bakradze who was nominated by the European Georgia party has 10.73%, and leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili has secured 3.83% of the vote.
The winner will be a candidate who secures more than half of the vote, and no minimum threshold for the voter turnout has been set. If no candidate gets the necessary amount of the votes, the second round will be held no later than December 1. Two candidates who receive the highest number of votes in the first round will take part in it.
