Snowden's spouse applies for Russian citizenship — lawyer

Anatoly Kucherena sees no problems that might prevent Lindsay Mills from obtaining citizenship

MOSCOW, January 21. /TASS/. The spouse of former US National Security Agency employee, Edward Snowden, Lindsay Mills, has submitted an application for Russian citizenship under the standard procedure, Snowden's lawyer Anatoly Kucherena has told TASS.

"As far as I know, she is undergoing the standard process, as everyone who is eligible. She has resided in Russia for more than five years. The relevant documents have been filed according to the normal citizenship acquisition procedure," he said, noting that he was not dealing with the issue personally.

Kucherena sees no problems that might prevent Snowden's spouse from obtaining citizenship.

"She is a law-abiding citizen. She does not violate laws, she adheres to them. I think there will be no issues," he remarked.

In October 2014, American acrobat and blogger Lindsay Mills traveled from the United States to Moscow to visit Snowden. They officially registered their marriage in 2017. The decree on Snowden's Russian citizenship was issued on September 26, 2022. On December 2 of the same year, it became known that he had taken the oath of allegiance and received his Russian passport.
