Monaco plans to open representative office in Russia — Foreign Minister

Russia is satisfied with the development of relations with Monaco and shares its willingness to intensify interaction in the foreign political arena

MOSCOW, January 14. /TASS/. Monaco is planning to open a representative office in Russia this year, Monaco's Foreign Minister Jose Badia said on Wednesday.

“I would like to highlight several points in diplomatic relations,” Badia told his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. “This is development of consular relations,” he said. “We are opening a new chapter in this regard. The Prince of Monaco is planning to set up Monaco’s representative office in Russia.”

Russia is satisfied with the development of relations with Monaco and shares its willingness to intensify interaction in the foreign political arena, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the meeting.

Lavrov said that the Monaco’s official has an extensive program in Moscow. Within the Monaco government Badia will attend the Gaidar Forum where he will hold a number of meetings, Lavrov said. “Our today’s meeting reflects the mutual desire to deepen co-operation between the two foreign ministries,” the Russian minister said.

“This is done in line with the decisions reached during the Prince of Monaco’s official visit to Russia in October 2012,” the Russian minister said. “Our meeting takes place at the beginning of the Year of Russia in Monaco, launched in December 2014.”

“A news conference will be held at TASS tomorrow where the program of the Year will be presented to the public,” he noted. “The program is very extensive, it includes an exhibition of archival documents called “the Grimaldi-Romanovs - four centuries of shared history,” musical ensembles of Yuri Bashmet, Valery Gergiev and others will also perform.”

Moscow “is satisfied with the development of cooperation with Monaco within the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in the preparation for the celebrations of the anniversary of the World War II Victory.”

“We hope that we will also be able to discuss other issues in the context of normalising the situation in Europe in the field of security,” Lavrov said.
