MOSCOW, March 26. /TASS/. Russia will keep in mind the 'trust, but verify’ principle while engaging in dialogue with the United States, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Channel One in an interview.
"Trust but verify - a great principle by [former US President Ronald] Reagan. Donald Trump recalled it. We will keep it in mind," the minister said.
In his words, Washington used the dollar to punish certain countries, and, as a result, the transition to national currencies and alternative payment systems has become unstoppable.
"They started to use the dollar as a weapon. Donald Trump, even before he became president, said after the election that [former President] Joe Biden has made a huge mistake - if not a crime - when he started using the dollar to ‘punish’ certain countries," Lavrov said.
"[Alternative] payment systems, such as BRICS, are now being discussed. This process is unstoppable," the minister added.
