Kremlin suggests Putin, Azerbaijani leader may discuss Russian House in Baku

"We will certainly raise this issue with our colleagues at various levels," Dmitry Peskov noted

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. The situation surrounding the Russian House in Baku may well come up for discussion between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev once their contacts take place, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"We will certainly raise this issue with our colleagues at various levels. If there are contacts at the highest level, we do not rule out that this issue may also be discussed in the dialogue between the presidents," the Kremlin spokesman said when asked whether Putin and Aliyev were expected to engage in talks on the topic.

On February 3, Azerbaijan sent Russia a notification stating that Moscow's cultural center in Baku had to terminate the activities as it was not registered as a legal entity.

The head of Russia’s Agency for International Humanitarian Cooperation, Yevgeny Primakov, confirmed that the cultural center in Baku had received a note from Azerbaijan stating the need for official registration. He added that the Russian House must vacate the rented premises within a month and a half, as the landlord had announced plans to sell the property in the near future. The cultural center gave no comment on the matter and now continues its operations.
