MOSCOW, February 4. /TASS/. Russia is ready to work on balancing everyone’s interests, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"Russia is ready for joint honest work to balance parties’ interests and to strengthen the legal principles of international relations," the top Russian diplomat wrote in an article for the Russia in Global Affairs journal. He pointed out that "President Vladimir Putin’s 2020 initiative for a meeting of the leaders of the UN Security Council’s permanent members, who bear ‘special responsibility for the preservation of civilization’," was aimed precisely at this. The meeting "sought an equitable dialogue on all such issues," Lavrov added.
"For well-known reasons beyond Russia’s control, this initiative did not go any further. But we keep our hopes up, although the participants and format of such meetings may now be different," the foreign minister pointed out. Lavrov also recalled Putin’s words that the most important thing is "to regain an understanding of what the United Nations was created for, and to follow the principles that are set forth in its founding documents."
"This should be the foremost guideline for regulating international relations in the multipolar era that has dawned," the top Russian diplomat concluded.
