Icy Russia-US relations a product of Washington not keeping its word — Lavrov

The examples are numerous, including in regards to the Ukrainian crisis, the Russian top diplomat stressed

VALLETTA /Malta/, December 5. /TASS/. The breakdown in Russian-US relations boils down to a lack of trust, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a press conference.

"The whole issue in our relations with the US lies in the fact that they do not keep their word, they are not trustworthy," Lavrov said. "Starting with the sweetheart deals reached by [Mikhail] Gorbachev and [Ronald] Reagan on Malta, and on through various other areas, including the operation of the OSCE."

"They promised not to advance NATO, but they did exactly the opposite," the minister noted. "The OSCE documents that came out of our summits stated that no organization on this territory would seek to dominate anyone else, but NATO did exactly the opposite. The examples are numerous, including in regards to the Ukrainian crisis."
