Russia says Steven Seagal remains special envoy for humanitarian ties with US

Earlier, the Russian government approved a proposal by the country’s Foreign Ministry to terminate a memorandum of understanding with the US in the field of culture, humanitarian and social sciences, as well as education and mass media

MOSCOW, June 22. /TASS/. US actor Steven Seagal is still staying in the role of a Russian envoy for humanitarian ties with the US despite a bilateral memorandum of understanding in the field of culture being severed, a top Russian diplomat told TASS on Wednesday.

"Naturally, he (Steven Seagal - TASS) has maintained his status as a special envoy. He is in charge of a number of issues, and we are not planning to change anything here, despite the general climate in [bilateral] relations," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said.

"Everything is still valid here, and we have already generated certain experience in how he positions himself," the Russian diplomat added.

The Russian government earlier approved a proposal by the country’s Foreign Ministry to terminate a memorandum of understanding with the United States in the field of culture, humanitarian and social sciences, as well as education and mass media.
