MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/. Muscovites have voted for naming the territory in front of the US embassy in Moscow after the Donetsk People’s Republic. Later, the city will also pick a square or street to be named in honor of the Lugansk People’s Republic, the website of the city’s mayor and government said no Wednesday.

"Muscovites have chosen a name for a square in the Presnensky district. The largest number of votes - 44.69% - was cast for Donetsk People's Republic Square. According to the terms of the poll another square or street will be proposed to be named for the Lugansk People's Republic," the post reads.

It specifies that the yet nameless territory is located at the intersection of Konyushkovskaya Street and Bolshoi Devyatinsky Pereulok. Registered users of the project with a full account on mos.ru participated in the voting. A total of 278,684 people expressed their opinion.

Second in popularity was the name Donbass Defenders Square (31.54%). The variant Hero of Russia Vladimir Zhoga Square has 8.33% of the votes. Another 15.44% preferred to delegate the right to make a decision to specialists.

Earlier, the Moscow City Duma suggested commemorating the defenders of Donbass on the city’s map. The Moscow government has received quite a few messages from the city’s residents with proposals for a future name. It was decided to be put to the issue on the vote.
