Relations between Russia and EU hostages of Russophobia — Peskov

At the same time, according to the Russian Presidential Spokesperson, Russia's bilateral relations with a number of EU countries are "in a rather positive spectrum"

MOSCOW, July 1. /TASS/. Relations between Moscow and Brussels are hostages to the "Russophobic approach of the young European countries and Poland," said Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov in an interview with Channel 1 TV on Thursday.

"As for the relations between Moscow and Brussels, then, as we can see from the latest events, these relations are hostages of an absolutely Russophobic approach, primarily of the Young Europeans and Poland. They really take a rather irreconcilable position," Peskov said.

"These are the very countries that most of all speak about their concern about the ephemeral threat they see in Russia. And at the same time, these are the very young Europeans, who are consistently following the path of escalating tensions. What are they doing? They are opening up their territory for American aircraft, for NATO aircraft. They are deploying American troops with military infrastructure on their territory," Peskov said, describing the current situation, pointing out that the US military is moving closer and closer to the Russian borders.

Peskov stressed that in response, that Russia is taking measures to ensure its security. "Does this benefit stability and predictability on the European continent? No. A vicious circle is emerging," he stated.

Moscow sees the intention of Berlin and Paris to communicate, despite all the differences, but at the same time observes "the absolutely irreconcilable position of the Young Europeans, who are blocking the peaceful initiatives of the so-called old Europeans against Russia," Peskov pointed out.

He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin, in particular, in his article in Die Welt, unequivocally speaks of his interest and readiness in improving relations between Russia and Europe. "When Putin has something in mind, he does it. When he does something, he means something specific. Here Putin is constructive. The ball is in the court of the European Union," he said. At the same time, according to Peskov, Russia's bilateral relations with a number of EU countries, for example, with Germany, France, Italy, are "in a rather positive spectrum".
