Russia’s grain and legume harvest is expected to total around 141.8 mln metric tons in 2026, while the vegetable harvest is projected at 14 mln metric tons, according to Russia’s socioeconomic development forecast for 2027 and the 2028-2029 planning period published on the Economic Development Ministry’s website.
"In 2026, taking into account unfavorable weather conditions in a number of regions, agricultural output is expected to stand at 98.8% of the 2025 level. The grain and legume harvest is projected at around 141.8 mln metric tons, while the vegetable harvest is expected at 14 mln metric tons," the document said.
At the same time, the gross grain and legume harvest is expected to increase to 165 mln metric tons by 2029, 16.9% above the 2025 level.
Production of vegetables, both open-field and greenhouse-grown, and potatoes is projected at 14.4 mln metric tons and 19 mln metric tons, respectively, in 2029, representing an increase of 2.4% and a decline of 2.5% from 2025.
Harvest forecast for other crops
The sugar beet harvest is expected to increase by 1.1% from 2025 to 49.5 mln metric tons in 2026, according to the document. In 2029, the sugar beet harvest is projected at 54.2 mln metric tons, up 10.7% from 2025.
Production of solid white beet sugar without added flavoring or coloring matter is expected to total around 6.7 mln metric tons in 2026, 5.6% above the 2025 level. By 2029, white sugar production is projected to rise to 7.1 mln metric tons, up 12.3% from 2025.
The document also said that the sunflower harvest totaled 17.5 mln metric tons in 2025. Sunflower production is expected to decline by 1.8% to 17.2 mln metric tons in 2026. By 2029, the sunflower harvest is projected at 19.5 mln metric tons, up 11.5% from 2025. "Taking into account last year’s harvest dynamics, vegetable oil output will increase by 3.2% to 10.2 mln metric tons in 2026. Production of unrefined vegetable oils will rise by almost 13% from the 2025 level by 2029," the document said.
