Zimbabwe to mediate expansion of economic ties between Russia, Africa — MFA

The event in Moscow was followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Delovaya Rossiya (Business Russia) Association and Zimbabwe’s Trade Development and Promotion Organization ZimTrade

HARARE, March 7. /TASS/. Zimbabwe may become a country, through which Russia will expand its economic cooperation with Africa, the republic’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amon Murwira said.

"Zimbabwe is a channel, through which the Russian Federation may implement its economic strategy in Africa, in the African Continental Free Trade Area," the ZBC TV channel quoted the minister as saying during his visit to Moscow. "By exporting tobacco, flowers, minerals, Zimbabwe strengthens cooperation with BRICS countries in accordance with its focus on determination of trade partners and use of market possibilities of developing states in today’s polycentric world," he noted.

CEO of ZimTrade Allan Majuru expressed confidence that the cooperation with Delovaya Rossiya would help increase direct foreign investment in Zimbabwe. "This meeting indicates close ties between Zimbabwe and Russia, our common drive for prosperity," he was quoted as saying by the TV channel. "It reflects the community of views on expansion of trade and investment. This platform enables Russian companies to contribute their expertise while Zimbabweans - to present their possibilities and define areas of cooperation with our Russian partners," the chief executive stressed.
