Kyrgyzstan discussing supplies of over 0.5 bcm of gas to republic with Gazprom

The republic imports around 300-340 mln cubic meters of gas per year, Kyrgyz Deputy Energy Minister Taalaibek Baigaziev said

SOCHI, March 25. /TASS/. Kyrgyzstan is discussing supplies of more than 0.5 bln cubic meters of gas to the republic in the future with Gazprom now, Kyrgyz Deputy Energy Minister Taalaibek Baigaziev told reporters on the sidelines of the Atomexpo-2024 forum.

"On [March] 27-28, a Gazprom representative will arrive, we will consider future gas supplies of 0.5 bln cubic meters and more," he said.

Currently the republic imports around 300-340 mln cubic meters of gas per year, Baigaziev said, adding that it plans to boost this volume to 1 bln cubic meters in the near future.

Meanwhile, the issues of possible transit of Russian gas through Kyrgyzstan to China are not discussed, he noted.

The parties are also considering the creation of steam-gas or gas generation in Kyrgyzstan, Baigaziev said.

In November 2023, Gazprom and Kyrgyzstan signed a memorandum on partnership in the development of the republic’s gas sector, as well as announced consideration of electricity cooperation.

Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller said earlier that the holding planned to start supplies of much higher gas volumes to Central Asian countries through the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline by November 1, 2025, and to enter into mid-term 15-year contracts with Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the middle of 2024.
