MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. Moscow’s magistrate court has fined Google 15 mln rubles ($164,000) for repeated refusal to localize Russian users’ personal data in the country, a source in the court’s department No. 422 where the decision was made, told TASS.
"The court has determined Google guilty on Part 9, Article 13.11 of the Russian Administrative Offenses Code (repeated failure of the operator to perform the obligation to ensure recording, systematization, accumulation, storage or extraction of personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation) and issued a fine in the amount of 15 mln rubles," the court said.
This is the second time that the company has been fined on that article.
In August 2021, Google was fined 3 mln rubles for refusal to localize Russian users’ data for the first time. The company failed to remove this violation, and in June 2022 the court fined it 15 mln rubles, determining the company guilty of repeated breach of the localization law.
Foreign services were to localize bases of Russian users in the Russian Federation by July 1, 2021 at the request of the country’s media watchdog (Roskomnadzor).
