LUHANSK, June 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian troops shelled the city of Shchastiye (Happiness) in the eastern Luhansk region overnight to Wednesday, says a report posted on the municipal portal.

A city checkpoint was shelled at 12.00 am local time. “According to early reports, one of the shells hit a residential building, and another one damaged a city water supply well. People are leaving their apartments to hide in basements,” the report said.

The active phase of a punitive operation in the country’s south-east was resumed on May 26, after the early presidential election on Sunday, May 25. Eight people were killed and 28 were wounded in a missile attack by Ukrainian Air Force at the regional administration building in Luhansk.

About 13,500 people live in Shchastiye, located about 20 km from the regional centet of Luhansk, on the Seversky Donets River.
