US conducts over 36 airstrikes on Yemen, causing casualties — Houthi spokesperson

Yahya Saree said that numerous people were killed and injured

DUBAI, April 3. /TASS/. The United States has in recent hours carried out over 36 airstrikes on Yemen, controlled by the Houthi rebel movement Ansar Allah, resulting in deaths and injuries, said Yahya Saree, a military spokesperson for the Houthis.

"In recent hours, the American forces have launched a blatant attack against our country, executing more than 36 airstrikes in several areas of Sanaa, Sadah, and other provinces. As a result of the attacks, numerous people were killed and injured," he stated on the air of the Houthi-controlled Al Masirah TV channel.

After the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip in 2023, the Houthis warned that they would attack Israel and would not allow ships linked with it to pass through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The Houthi attacks ceased after a ceasefire was introduced in Gaza in mid-January. However, after the truce was broken in early March, they resumed attacks on Israeli ships in the Red Sea and attempted to strike targets in Israel with rockets once again.

On March 15, the United States, under orders from President Donald Trump, launched massive strikes against Houthi targets that control about a third of Yemen. According to the Central Command of the US Armed Forces, the operation is aimed at protecting US interests and ensuring freedom of navigation. In response, the Ansar Allah movement launched a series of attacks on the American aircraft carrier Harry Truman in the northern part of the Red Sea, using missiles and drones. There was no information about damage to the ship.
