BUDAPEST, March 26. /TASS/. Hungary and Russia have agreed to step up cooperation in energy sector, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto announced following his visit to Moscow.
In the Russian capital, Szijjarto met with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
The foreign minister noted that this is entirely in Hungary's interests to step up cooperation in that field, since its energy security "largely depends on Russia."
"Let's be clear: without Russian energy sources, Hungary's energy supply would not be reliable," Szijjarto said in a video message recorded on Moscow's Red Square and broadcast by Hungarian TV channel M1.
The minister noted that last year Hungary received a record volume of natural gas from Russia, and "this year, daily supplies will exceed 20 million cubic meters." He also recalled that Russian oil supplies this year already amount to more than 1.25 million tons.
According to Szijjarto, his Russian officials at the talks in Moscow assured him that Russia will continue to fulfill all its obligations regarding oil and gas supplies to Hungary so that its energy supply remains reliable.
