WASHINGTON, March 19. /TASS/. The Trump administration has actually endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to relaunch the military operation in the Gaza Strip, even as it initially brokered the ceasefire deal between the Jewish state and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas, The Washington Post (WaPo) reported.
A few days prior to Israeli strikes on Gaza, the United States launched its own large-scale attacks on Yemen’s Houthis who fight against the Jewish state. Not only has Washington abstained from denouncing the Israeli action, it has also warned that Hamas, the Houthis, and Iran will see "a price to pay" for seeking to "terrorize" Israel and the United States, the newspaper wrote.
On March 15, US President Donald Trump ordered military action against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. And on March 18, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported massive strikes on Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu’s office said the move comes after the Palestinian radical movement rejected the proposals put forward by mediators and US special envoy Steven Witkoff at the latest round of negotiations.
The radicals have blamed the United States for the resumption of Israeli aggression. They said that Hamas was devoted to the ceasefire agreement until the last moment. After the ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave was broken, the Houthi movement announced that it will restart attacks on Israel-linked vessels in the Red Sea.
More than 400 people have already been killed in the latest bout of escalation in Gaza, with more than 560 others being wounded, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
On January 15, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held in the enclave with mediation from Egypt, Qatar and the United States. The agreement, consisting of three phases, came into effect on January 19. Stage one expired on March 1. In total, during the first six weeks of the ceasefire, Hamas released 25 Israeli hostages alive and returned the bodies of eight dead hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
