BEIRUT, March 3. /TASS/. Several people were wounded as the Israeli military opened warning fire at a group of refugees returning to the border city of Kfar Kila in southern Lebanon, the Al Mayadeen television channel reported.
According to the TV channel, the incident occurred near a residential house located in the vicinity of the Bab-Fatima checkpoint. One of those wounded was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Earlier, Israeli forces blocked the road between Kfar Kila and neighboring Edeisa.
On March 1 and 2, Israeli forces several times shelled border villages in this area where displaced persons were heading after being granted permits from the Lebanese army command.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam visited southern Lebanon on Fenruary 28 and promised to ensure the soonest return of refugees to their homes. He reiterated the government’s commitment to the "process of the restoration of settlements that suffered from the aggression." At the same time, he stressed that "there can be no lasting stability in the south" unless Israel withdraws its troops from the Lebanese soil.
The truce agreement, concluded as a result of US-French mediation on November 27, 2024, provides for the deployment of the Lebanese army along the southern border with the support of UN peacekeepers and the withdrawal of Hezbollah militias beyond the Litani River. In return, Israel is obliged to pull its forces out of southern Lebanon by February 18. The Israeli army command said however that it will continue controlling five strategic areas in Lebanon for an indefinite period.
