DUSHANBE, March 2. /TASS/. No violations were reported by observers from the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States during parliamentary elections in Tajikistan, a Russian lawmaker told TASS.
According to Kazbek Taisayev, first deputy chairman of the committee for the CIS affairs of the Russian State Duma (lower parliament house), the CIS observers visited more than a dozen of polling stations in Dushanbe and in the city of Tursunzade. "No violations were reported at the polling stations we visited," he said, adding that the elections were held at the highest possible level.
Tajikistan held elections to the lower house of parliament and to the legislative bodies of the regions, cities, districts, and villages of the country on March 2. There were 3,513 polling stations across the country. In addition, another 36 stations operated at Tajikistan's diplomatic missions in 28 countries. Around 5.5 mln citizens of the country who have reached the age of 18 are eligible to vote. The elections were monitored by 229 international observers. Preliminary results of the voting are expected to be released on March 3.
